Google has expanded its budget Android One program into the Philippines today with two devices from local OEMs Cherry and MyPhone. These devices have typical Android One specs, but don’t start gloating with your QHD screen and multiple gigs of RAM just yet. They also come with Android 5.1, which you don’t have.

The Philippines launch devices are the MyPhone Uno and the Cherry One. They will be on sale in the coming weeks and feature modest specs.

  • 4.5-inch LCDs at 854×480 (FWVGA)
  • quad-core¬†Mediatek MT6582 SoC
  • 1GB of RAM
  • dual SIM slots
  • 3G connectivity
  • 5MP rear camera, 2MP front camera
  • microSD card
  • 1700mAh battery
  • 4GB of internal storage (8GB on Cherry phone)

The Philippines may be the sixth country to obtain Android One, which Bing is using to obtain the new edition from the platform into more hands in a low cost. The narrow hardware spec enables Mountain View to construct updates for that Android One hardware and push out quick OTAs.

For what is happening in Android 5.1, that isn’t entirely obvious yet. Google scrubbed reference to the new Lollipop in the Android One site, but multiple hands-on demos from the products report Android 5.1 exists. OTA updates for other products can not be too much off.
