Dell ups its game in EMM, gets to be more BYOD-friendly

Dell has released enhancements to the Dell Mobile Workspace product, getting up enhancements to the enterprise mobility management (EMM) offering and pervading BYOD.

The important thing feature of the announcement is Dell Business Phone, which provides employees the chance to split up work and private existence on a single device.

As you’d expect, you receive a number of apps to use work tasks around the personal device, with Dell registering Box and Microsoft (Office365) as partners. However more intriguingly, using the Mobile Workspace you receive two separate phone figures on a single phone.

Based on a pr release: “This unique voice feature gives businesses the opportunity to set security and calling guidelines, in addition to route calls over Wi-Fi, cellular, voice and knowledge systems to assist control telecom expenses.”

Not remarkably, the merchandise also promotes enterprise-grade security, in addition to telecom expense management, with Voice over internet protocol calling over Wi-Fi. As Jack Madden noted, this matches with Dell’s “pragmatic, lengthy-term method of EMM.”

This can be a particularly interesting part of the discussion. There are many ideas available to save cash, from flipping between Wi-Fi and cellular effortlessly with no dip in coverage, to the notion that Good Technologies are assembling by instantly putting work calls from personal products to the employer’s bill.

The second idea appears partially inspired with a recent situation inside a Californian court ordering a company to compensate staff who made work calls on their own personal products. Curiously it had been just for voice, so SMS and application trades weren’t counted, however it still sets a precedent – and it is something Dell notes.

Neal Promote, Dell executive director of mobility solutions, stated: “With Dell Business Phone, Dell supplies a compelling finish to consumer experience while getting rid of a few of the greatest BYOD security, manageability and price hurdles companies face.”

Elsewhere, amongst the Iphone 6 watching unveilings, Dell also revealed the world’s thinnest tablet, at 6mm. Named, presented by Michael Dell themself in the Apple Designers Conference in Bay Area, is operated by EMM provider MobileIron.
